The Stand That Made Reading for Longer Actually Comfortable

On neck strain, lap reading, and a problem I didn't know had a solution

Books / Home

When it was gone, I noticed it had been there.

I read a lot, and I read in uncomfortable positions. On the couch with the book in my lap and my neck bent down. At the desk with the book flat on the surface and my head at an angle I would not choose if I were thinking about it. I stopped thinking about it because it was just what reading looked like.

A bookstand changed that. It sounds unremarkable, and it was, until the first time I sat with good posture and read for two hours without moving.

A portable adjustable book stand props the book at eye level and holds it open without your hands. The angle adjusts. The clips that hold the pages are small enough not to cover much text. It folds flat and is light enough to carry without noticing it.

I use mine on the desk when I am reading research, and on the couch when I am reading for longer. It also works for tablets, which changed how I use mine.

What surprised me was how much neck strain I had normalized. When it was gone, I noticed it had been there.

This is the book stand I use → portable book stand reading rest

An adjustable portable book stand that holds a book or tablet at eye level, hands-free — the kind of small fix that makes a large and previously invisible problem disappear.
